The TASK
Creativity is needed in every aspect of our community. From lab rooms to classrooms to boardrooms ideas make a difference. Ideas develop solutions to complicated issues and one such issue has been present in Oklahomans for over 20 years. Street Gangs.
With our strategic placement on I-35 and I-40 drugs are trafficked to all four corners of our country through the boarders of Oklahoma. Drug trafficking brought the street gangs from southern California here in the 80Ős and they brought their culture with them. Violence. Robbery. Vandalism.
On this edition of State of Creativity we take a look into the gangster lifestyle and discover a solution that breaks the cycle of this dangerous culture. Led by Pastor Theo Manning, the organization TASK, Teaching And Saving Kids, takes reformed gang members off the streets and uses their powerful influence and their powerful stories, to break the chain of gang violence in our communities. Men and women who once terrorized their communities are now finding support and rebuilding their communities one child at a time.

I was inspired while watching the program, we have so many of our men losing their lives to the streets and/or prison. We need this program. I hope that more people get involved, especially those people in our communities. Everyone needs to get involved even if you dont have a child in the gang someone you know probably does so lets support and stop complaining but get involved.

The program was very inspiring. I think Pastor Manning and Mr.Prater are doing an excellent job. I would like to see a part two especially with the reintergration program of Lawton Correctional Facility Inmates. Just like the ones on the outside making a difference in the community, I'm sure the inmates have a story to tell as well because they are living that life everyday and praying for that chance to be a part of TASK on the outside else well. I was wondering if Pastor Manning has thought about bringing the TASK to Tulsa, because we definately need it here. There are so many senseless crimes every weekend just about. One of the inmates now is Malcolm Scott and I'm sure he has a story and could possibly reach youth here in Tulsa. I think it would be a good idea to take the program to the schools and let them view it as well, because the film was just that good. Hope to see a part two soon! ~Stay Blessed

What about gang member's who get on the stand and lie about what they seen someone do, just because their from an opposit set like in Malcome Scott case. What about when u have dirty cops that tell u if u dont lie then we'll pen something on u. I hope TASK help's out Malcome Scott.

It's good to hear that you would be willing to help Malcolm Scott because as I have seen on the news in Tulsa, there is and has been alot of corruption in TPD and has always been swept under the rug for this or that reason. That is correct from the previous person's comment here in Tulsa they will use whoever or whatever they can to make a case stick to someone who had nothing to do with it so they can hurry and close the case and that is what happened in his case. I know that's kind of off the subject but the TPD doesn't care about the youth in Tulsa in my opinion, but we need the TASK Program in Tulsa to make our voices loud, cause the TPD doesn't care at all!~Stay Blessed

I believe that T.A.S.K. is something great for the communities everywhere. These are things that need to be addressed and administered to our youth just as well as our elders. I've never been in a gang but growing up I always felt safe, secure, and secluded. I had a big sister and 5 cousins that made that possible. Then; for me, it was cool and fun. But as I look back now I see it wasn't the safest thing to be around. The security only went as far as the bullet followed and the seclusion impaired my ability to branch out and try new things, common things, kid things. . . I'm all for T.A.S.K. and I take my hat off to all apart of it's journey that lies ahead of a paved path to success cause I do believe it can change the world. I do believe . . . -Xavier Hurd OKC,OK

thank you for your support, we have a proposed alternative curriculum for the public schools but it seems so hard to get our school administrators to let us inside the schools. i hope someone with more pull than we have will help us talk to the right people, those who really care about the youth enough to try something out of the ordinary. God bless

Taiwan, I'm proud of you for putting your information out there let people know that it is possible for you to have a "LIFE AFTER" you've messed up. But, Not to go out there to do bad in the first place. A struggle that you never want to Experience ever again. I tell my child more often than not "Everyone is not your friend". Pray that you and the "TASK" continues to prosper. Young Ladies and Gentalmen stay focused let's do the right thing and stay on a Positive TASK.

I wanted to say T.A.S.K. is really a great program not only are we teaching kids but also involved in their lives, to better the community. This is the way you would be able to help troubled kids. When you have a gang member in your family not only do you want to help SAVE kids from the streets also to encourge them the the gang life is NOT the answer. Our Pastor Theodis Manning is doing a wonderful job. Big koodoos for TASK.. Keep up the good work.

Hi my name is cameal and i just want to say that the documentary you all did was great. Me and my brother come from a crip gang family,i loved the money i got from selling drugs and the respect i had. Then one day i had a desicion to make either the streets or my unborn baby i was carrying and what changed me was having my daughter which is 15 now and watching my brother suffer by almost dying. My brother got jumped by another gang which both his jaws were broken and alot more but he suffered with having his mouth wired shut for a while and my heart cried out for him, its not worth the pain of watching your family suffer over being in gangs. Looking at this show has made me opened my eyes about my 11 yr old son which is talking about gangs alot her lately and acting up so we need this task program to do more documentary's like this for are children to see that its not kool to live dangerous like that so if our kids can see real life ex gang members talking and telling how or what the gang life has done to them then maybe our kids will see diffently and see the scary side which is death or locked up so please keep me posted on shows or events your doing when gangs members are telling their testamonies so i can have my kids listen to you all. God gave me and my brother another chance and now through task alot more people can change. Thanks for the postive things task is doing through people that can change the next generation, im praying and believing God is going to change the street life for better by using Task. That was a very informative and heartfelt peice. I believe that a series should be done on this subject. It brings you back to reality when watching this, because overtime I believe that so many of us have just kinda put it away thinking that it would go away. It was real and it was encouraging. Keep up the good work T.A.S.K and may God continue to bless this program.

Currently there are no plans for a part 2 but it is something that we have thought about as a production staff for a possible State of Creativity episode in the future.
As for purchasing a DVD, the proceeds will not go to TASK. We do make all of our programs available for purchase for those viewers who would like a copy. It is also important to note that OETA does not make a profit off of these DVD sales and the cost of the DVD pays for the production of the DVD copy that you receive.
Here is the info on how to get a DVD copy of State of Creativity:The TASK
The cost is $22.95
